Sauk County’s 50’s Club
SENIOR OF THE MONTH
BASCO welcomes Timothy as our new Center Assistant!
I am a newcomer to Baraboo, having lived in Milwaukee for the past ten years. I wanted to live in a smaller town reminiscent of my childhood home of Waukesha, and so far I have been happy with the move. I was fortunate enough to be hired as an assistant at the Baraboo Area Senior Center, and I very much enjoy the seniors, especially the participants at the Friday coffee Hour, a good time to hear the stories of the seniors.
After attending parish schools in Waukesha, I attended Purdue University where I earned a Master’s Degree in English Literature. I taught in community college for a short time, but when I got married, I needed a career that provided a better income, so for 25 years I sold automobiles in Libertyville, Illinois.
I enjoy long hours at the Public Library, and I read about five books a week, primarily historical fiction and mystery novels. When I am not reading, I spend my time playing guitar and mandolin. I very much enjoy music, and have attended the Concerts on the Square, a very good time for all. I paint with watercolors occasionally, and also enjoy bird watching. All in all, I am enjoying the leisurely pace of semi-retirement, and am happy that I can choose activities that please me. I enjoy an hour at the coffee shop conversing with friends, and I walk about five miles a day, allowing me to stop and observe little objects that catch my eye.
I look forward to exploring Baraboo, hiking the Bluffs and camping at Devil’s Lake. I appreciate the easy friendliness of the people in town, who always greet me with a smile as I walk around town. I am eager to learn from the members of the Senior Center, and I hope to serve them with a smile. I anticipate a wonderful time in this community, and I believe that I will be here for a long time to come!

August BOOKCLUB SELECTION
“River of Doubt” by Candice Millard
This will be brief due to a busy schedule. The book was enjoyed by all the book club members who recommend it as a good read. Next month will be a little less hectic and I’ll be back with a critical review of our next read: “Night” By Elie Wiesel. We are always looking for new members so if you’re a read-aholic or just like to read and enjoy a good book come and join us! We meet monthly, always on the second Monday of each month, at 1:30 p.m. in Room 21. Each year members get a chance to recommend books to read for the upcoming year, book club members vote on the top 12 books and then it’s read and discuss, no muss, no fuss. -Judy Curtin
